Municipality Stolac

Municipality Stolac is situated on the south-east of Bosnia and Herzegovina and has 14.889 inhabitants at 286km2. Stolac presents one of few urban ensembles in Bosnia and Herzegovina preserved in their integrity to the present time developed through the several phases of the history and has traces of urban life through 3.500 years, so since 2007 is listed on the Tentative list of UNESCO to be declared a UNESCO "World Heritage" site. Despite its unusual history and inclusion into four empires (Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman, and Austro-Hungarian), three kingdoms (Bosnian, Hungarian and Yugoslav), three world's monotheistic religions - Christianity (Orthodox Christianity and Catholicism), Islam, and Judaism, the historical core of Stolac is a coherent and harmonious cultural-historical monument with individual properties grown together into one ensemble.
