Project “Together for the FUTURE of Small Multicultural Communities in EUROPE”
(FuturEU)
This project involves small municipalities - members of the Network "I Care for Europe" (established 2013):
- Čapljina, Stolac (Bosnia and Herzegovina)
- Rab, Rakovica (Croatia)
- Aquileia, Recanati, Tarcento (Italy)
- Piran (Slovenia)
- Bač (Serbia)
- Adriatic GreeNet as the Technical Coordinator of the Network “I Care for Europe”
as well as the Municipality of Bovec (Slovenia) and the City of Metković (Croatia) interested in this project and the Network.
These small local communities have preserved cultural & natural heritage in their territories already recognized as UNESCO "World Heritage" (or on the Tentative list to be declared) as well as the heritage of European significance in terms of historical, social & natural values. They share the common "small town" dimension, characterized by similar opportunities, problems and challenges. Tradition and customs that contribute to multicultural richness - the peculiarities of Europe - are preserved in their territories which represent the cradle of our common European Culture and History.
The objectives of this project, which involves 10 small local communities in preparatory project activities at the local level, and delegation of their representatives (local cultural and youth associations, local schools, local stakeholders & administrators) in the joint activities of the Final event in Čapljina (altogether around 350 participants from all involved communities) are:
1. Debate on the sustainable future of small local communities based on their cultural heritage, with an emphasis on the creation of new job opportunities for youth in European small cultural towns.
2. Increasing knowledge and awareness of local cultures and traditions (part of today's European identity).
3. Mutual exchange of examples of good practice for valorisation of local cultural and natural resources.
4. Enhancing the potential of the Network "I Care for Europe" through training of small local communities' stakeholders.
5. Further strenghtening of European cohesion.
